Boston, Massachusetts

Atmosphere: This vacation can almost feel like the ultimate field trip! A historical fun event for the whole family!

What better place to visit then the location of the famed Boston Tea Party! Every year the capital of Massachusetts transforms into a lively celebration of Independence Day as the city holds its annual Boston Harborfest!

While there are many exciting events you could enjoy that have a fee (Whale Watch Cruises and Spirit Tasting), there are a lot of activities that families can enjoy together absolutely free! Take a step back in time and learn about family, political, and war life in Boston during the Revolution! The activities start June 26th and end with a fantastic fireworks display on the 4th of July!

Atmosphere: While smaller travelers can still enjoy the big city life adventure, this trip might be best suited for older children and adults.

Check out New York's pride in city living and liberty during this 4th of July party! There are plenty of free or cheap events you can enjoy while touring the area. For example you can go to Bryant Park to take part in the Summer Film Festival. They'll have a free showing of Easy Rider on Independence Day.

New York is renown for its 4th of July Fireworks display presented by Macy's. This year promises to be the biggest event ever with a 26 minute show that is projected to start around 9:20 pm. If you want to fully take advantage of this spectacle, make sure you plan to get there early and leave very late, as thousands of people crowd into the best places to see the fireworks.

If you want a historic taste of our country's independence, you should make it a point to visit Philadelphia during the Wawa Welcome America! Festival. The Declaration on Independence was signed in Philly in 1776 and this city doesn't take its heritage as the birthplace of America lightly!

From June 24th - July 4th, enjoy live performances from amazing artists such as The Roots and Earth, Wind and Fire. Eat part of a mile-long hoagie in honor of the military and local heros. Learn about the Asian culture in Philly by taking part of the Chinatown Block Party. Donate $7 to the Joshua Kahan Fund to help find a cure for Pediatric Leukemia and eat as much ice cream as you'd like during the fundraiser. End the festival at Benjamin Franklin Parkway to see the Grand Finale Fireworks display! Oh, and did we mention that many of the events are free?
